Term 2 Evaluation

My end of term reflection 

WALT: evaluate our learning honestly

What is an effective learner?  Independent, Concentrated, Sensible, Organized, Self Directed,

What were the highlights for this term? I really enjoyed Grasshopper tennis because I got to work on my ball skills and I got to practice my racquet skills as well, CMIYC Because I enjoy playing with ball and working on my skills with the ball.

What were your greatest challenges this term?  Why? I struggled to get my Writing Sample done because I always had to go back and add more and more, I don't think I'm getting enough done because of distractions.

How are you going towards acting with integrity? Why?  How could you improve? I do walk past the odd pen on the ground and books and stuff but other than that I am pretty good.

What are your goals in our learner disposition wall?  Where to next? To get back up to the self directed position on the wall.

Tennis Sample

WALT Improve our small ball skills like throwing catching and hitting.

We have been participating in a tennis programme with Big John (John Salisbury) from Tennis Manawatu. He has taught us some tennis skills that help with controlling and hitting the ball To reflect on how we are going with the tennis skills we have learnt. We will share this during our Student Led Conference.

What are you most proud of and why? I am proud of my skill to keep it going over the net

What challenged you the most and Why? I think it was cut the cheese because I could never get my racquet on the ball

Integrity Pass it on!

WALT: Show Integrity

To showcase the Tuakana/Teina that we foster at Russell Street School and our understanding of this terms value of Integrity. We will share this during our Student Led Conference in week 7.

We are making a short movie that shows what Integrity looks like with our little buddy.
Troy and Chris shared with us some movies that demonstrate people showing Integrity when it looked like they were not going to show it. Our goal was to create our own movies that showed Integrity at school

I think I did awesome on this video but I think it could have been a little bit longer -Liam

Alex said: I like BatLiam more then batman I will have to read the comic books good work on the video.

Science Sample

WALT: show our understanding of how energy works.

Make a video (no longer than 30 seconds) about our understanding of energy. i.e. States of matter, Potential and Kinetic energy, Newtons Cradle or forms of energy like Radiation, Convection, Conduction we did it

To show what we know about how energy works, to share during our Student Led Conference.

I think we did a great job with our movie and I was on time with pulling it back and letting it go and I did very well on the success criteria.

Writing sample

WALT: craft an explanation with body paragraphs that include: the main point, evidence (facts etc.), explanation of the evidence, linking sentences and style/Inform

We had to write an explanation about something you have learned about energy.
We are publishing a piece of writing to our blog to share at our student led conference in week 6.

Do you have any idea what potential energy is? How about kinetic? No, okay first let me tell you about Potential energy.

Potential is energy ready to move. If there is a pen on the table it's just sitting there doing nothing, it has no energy... until you pick it up you are giving it potential energy because now It has the potential to do something. A bit like how you have the potential to do something awesome!

Now Kinetic, Kinetic comes after potential. Remember when you picked up the pen? It was at its potential stage. Now you throw it across the room. Yes you get in trouble but also the pen uses up the potential energy turning it into kinetic, allowing it to move across the room it also allows you to get in trouble.

Here is another example of potential and kinetic energy. There is a car at the top of a hill no energy, you walk up to it and shove it starts with potential ends with kinetic. (or an explosion!)

Potential and kinetic energy are two very similar things yet very different. It's a bit like me giving you a brainstorm then you turning it into something great!
You give something potential and it turns the potential into kinetic energy.

I like my writing but I could have done my writing a bit longer -Me

We Had to create Mneonics for Our reading Sample we created mnemonics to help us with our spelling. I used the basics of pages. At first I thought it was difficult but then I put my imagination to the test.
